Mad Dog Knives 的演進及關於Kevin為史帝芬席格電影"Under Siege 2"所做的刀之說明.
The original specification for the Navy trials required a false edge on the knives submitted. In order to keep the blade as SEAL proof as possible while still incorporating the false edge, the flex enhancement file work was added to the geometry of the blade. It actually does help the flexural characteristics.
The advent of the Deep Submergence Unit(DSU) knife allowed me to make an ATAK style blade without the false edge, so the filework was not necessary. The SEALs saw the DSU knife, and after a brief RE-explanation of the knife's potential properties, they switched the ATAK design to the DSU type design. The DSU design gives a stronger tip that will still penetrate body armor and such quite easily.
The DSU later started using some new Spectra fiber rope, and required a serrated blade, so I did up the fully serrated DSU2, which was my first serrated blade. The SEALs saw it, and asked if they could get partial serrations on the ATAKs. That was no problem, hence the ATAK2. the numbering system was becoming quite confused by then, as there was no DSU knife as it had become the second generation ATAK. the DSU2 was fully serrated, and the ATAK2 was partially serrated. These distinctions remain today. The other knives in the lineup are numbered based on the ATAK2 format, with fully serrated blades being designated with a "3".

As for Segal;
Kevin's former Wm.Morris agent Chris, arranged for Kevin to meet Steven for lunch. He had warned Kevin of Steven's infamous super ego and given Kevin's...er...um... sense of himself , we all waited with baited breath to see what would happen. Amazingly, the two hit it off very well. They were in touch with each other and would sometimes get together for lunch if Kevin was in Hollyweird, throughout the making of his knives for the movie. As I recall, Steven had six Dogs made with custom handles to accommodate his HUGE hands.
Steven had asked that the knives ship to him hair shaving sharp, so that's how they shipped. The prop master was the first to open the box of sharp Dogs and immediately cut himself, rather badly as I recall. The prop master returned the knives with instructions to dull them. Kevin did as instructed and shipped them back. Steven got the dull knives and immediately demanded that they be sent back and resharpened...and so it went. Kevin and Steven may have met or talked on the phone a couple of times since then but I wouldn't call it a friendship so much as a respectful business relationship.
